Kanda Shrine
Kanda Shrine enshrines Masakado, a medieval general & lord. During 10th century, Masakado rebeled against the Imperial government and called himself the New Emperor. However, his rebellion resulted in failure-- his deep-seated grudge caused a series of natural disasters. Masakado was actually a hero of this region as a symbol to "help the weak and crush the strong." Then this shrine, originally founded in 730 A.D., enshrined Masakado as keeper of this region. After the enshrinement, natural disasters were said to be gone... It was 1,309 A.D.

Pink plum blossom was beautiful in this season. This picture was taken at a store selling local foods in front of the main gate. Behind is a raccoon dog doll.

Although long history, buildings are comparatively new-- not so attractive for photographers. However, atmosphere is quite majestic... Yes, this shrine has been regarded as keeper of City of Edo-- old name of Tokyo, for a long time.
