Kofu Zenko-Ji Temple (06 Feb 2005)
Most people in Japan believe that Zenko-Ji Temple is in Nagano City. In fact, Zenko-Ji Temple is one of the most famous temples in Japan and it is actually located in Nagano, where the Winter Olympic Game was held in 1998. However, there is one more Zenko-Ji Temple in Kofu City, about 100km away from Tokyo. Around 1,550 A.D., Nagano was the centre of battles between two feudal lords. One of them moved the temple to his stronghold, Kofu, so that it would not be damaged by war. It was 1,558 A.D.
